The Apprentice 2017 – Mistakes Candidates Should Be Avoiding

Published on 05/10/2017

It’s that time of year again when Lord Sugar gets his famous firing finger out for a fresh set of faces. That’s right, The Apprentice is back and the very first episode aired on TV last night. In fact, we’ve already had deep conversations here at Calibre on our views on this show and we think it would also be interesting to share some of our views with our readers too.

Let’s face it there is a great deal to discuss regarding the long-standing TV show. However, for now we will go through some of the obvious mistakes the candidates should stop making if they want to stand a chance with Sir Alan Sugar’s life changing partnership opportunity.

Shall we begin?

Mistake 1: being a passive candidate

Every year without fail, there are always a few candidates on the show who often shy away from tasks and have minimal input. This is a huge deal breaker and one the apprentices should be mindful of if they don’t want to avoid being grilled by Lord Sugar at his boardroom meetings.

Instead, they should try their level best to stand out and give it their all to prove to Lord Sugar that he should ultimately be choosing them as a business partner. In fact, we strongly feel that this type of proactive attitude should also be practiced in every industry including the office furniture industry that we operate in.

Mistake 2: being a troublemaker not a a team player

There’s no doubt that businesses are likely to go terribly wrong if the workforce refused to carry out teamwork. The same work rule applies to this show. Many of us viewers have observed that the candidates get into disputes over trivial topics and not concentrate on the actual task. This is a bad move for them to make and will seriously jeopardise their chances of winning over the business tycoon.

Mistake 3: Not using common sense at all times

We probably vote this as the most important not just in this context but all business contexts. In relation to this show however, we’re certain you’re also often sat there questioning some of the awful choices these candidates make ranging from the pricing of products to the sales and marketing strategies they go for. All they really need to do is keep everything simple and work in a more logical way. The key learning here is that individuals need to avoid complicating everything; the correct answers are often right in front of us, we just need to watch out for these.

Final thoughts:

It’s fair to say that, the Calibre team are certainly sceptic towards some if the candidates that have been selected this year. However we’re certainly excited about the forthcoming episodes in hope that the candidates will stop making the unnecessary mistakes they've already been making.

Have you missed the first episode? Why not get away from your office desk and office chair for the hour and catch-up on your lunch break? It’s worth the watch!
