Trends in office design come and go, but many find their way back around at some point in the future. For instance, the open plan office design was born a long time ago, before disappearing in favour of separate offices. Then, boom! It came back into fashion and it’s now a huge deal!
The same can be said for any type of office furniture too, and wooden desks are enjoying a very welcome comeback.
When you picture wooden desks you probably think old fashioned, heavy, and clumsy, but these types of funky office desks have certainly come a long way! We’re now looking at truly stylish options, in-keeping with the biophilic office design which is so on trend right now.
If you’re yet to embrace hints of Mother Nature in your office space, it’s time you did.

Another study – carried out by the University of British Columbia and FPInnovations – has established a link between wood and human health. The result has shown that the presence of wood in the built indoor environment reduces sympathetic nervous system (SNS) activation. SNS activation is the way that the body prepares itself to deal with stress. SNS activation increases blood pressure and heart rate. It also inhibits digestion, recovery, and repair functions in the body in order to deal with immediate threats. However, when the body spends prolonged periods in an SNS activated state health suffers both physiologically and psychologically.
Wood, therefore, is one way to create a healthier built environment.
As you can see, natural elements can boost productivity, which in turn boosts profits. How does an executive wooden desk fit into that? Wood is one of the most natural materials you can find, and the good news is that it comes in various different colours. You can also look toward textures, e.g. rugged desks, a more rustic feel. By doing this, you’re incorporating nature and that brings those benefits we’ve just read about!
A solid oak boardroom table is a great addition to a conference space, traditional wooden desks in different textures will look fantastic as part of a biophilic office space, and when you add plants and other greenery elements to your office, you’ll really be welcoming Mother Nature indoors!
