Productivity is the main aim of most businesses. The reason is because when you focus on productivity, you’re focusing on profits as an indirect aim.
There are many ways you can try and improve productivity, but you have to look at your office as a first port of call.
An unproductive office will cause your employees to feel annoyed, stressed out and as a result, they will end up doing far less work than they could. However, if you take the time to look for the right type of office layout and make some changes here and there, perhaps moving around your office desks and creating a more pleasant and active working space, morale will improve and productivity will swiftly follow.
How can you tell that it’s time to change your office layout?
Basically, if you’ve had the same office layout for a long timed you’re noticing that productivity doesn’t seem to be doing too well. Perhaps then, it’s time for a change!
Many businesses have the scope to completely change their entire office space but they don’t think it is a priority because of the cost involved. Changing your office doesn’t have to cost the Earth, but it isn’t going to be free either.
There are many different office layout design choices you can look into, and whilst open plan office design is certainly the most common, you don’t have to go down that route. Do you have smaller offices within your building you can make use of? In that case, how about a cellular office layout? This could improve productivity and security, but you have to think about the teamwork element.
If you have a large space and you’re not really utilising it properly, how about opening the space up and looking towards an agile workspace? This could improve productivity and you don’t have to spend a small fortune on it either.
So, how can you look to save cash when you’re thinking about changing your layout?
- Look at what you have currently and work out how you can work with the space you already have in place
- Do you other rooms within your building which can be utilised?
- If you’re sure you need to make certain renovation moves, shop around and find the best deal
- Do you have any other spaces you can make use of, such as a conservatory?
- Changing your office layout can be as simple as changing your office furniture around and creating a different formation within your office, is this something you can look to do?
It’s really about thinking outside of the box, but it doesn’t mean that you need to focus on making sweeping, wide-spread changes. You don’t have to call in a builder and look to know down walls and you don’t need to relocate. Of course, those are options if you have the cash to do so, but it doesn’t always have to come to that. It’s really about making the most of the space you have and not focusing too much on making massive construction-related changes. For instance, a combination office layout is a good piece of middle ground for those who want an open plan space but don’t quite have the largest room available.
Look at each of the different office layout ideas and try and figure out which is going to work best for you. Then, see how you can implement it with the least amount of cash spent. However, don’t assume that you don’t have to dig into your bank account a little, because we don’t live in a free world!
Also, don’t forget the small details. Maybe you can simply move your office desks around or add in some bench desks to create a more collaboration-focused space. This could move you closer towards the agile type of layout and you haven’t spent a fortune in the process!
