Published on 15/01/2020

Having a positive outlook means that you’re generally happier, but it also means that you’re more likely to be productive too.

Within the workplace, being upbeat and positive means that you’ll get more done at your office desk, you’ll hit your targets, you’ll meet your deadlines and you’ll feel generally more uplifted and healthier as a result.

However, sometimes things are sent to test us, or we simply don’t feel that wonderful in ourselves. That can drastically affect how productive you are on a day to day basis, and if this is the case for all your employees within an office set up, that could change the feel of the office quite quickly.

Check out this infographic which highlights how happy people are generally more productive people.

As you can see, the benefits are pretty impressive! So, if you want be more positive, how can you start? The good news is that you can start right now! There are several ways you can try and foster a more positive outlook to life, and whilst some might take some time to develop and take hold, others will bring you speedier results.

Check out these 5 ways to overcome that bad Monday morning mood and feel more uplifted.

Make a List of Aims For The Day

If you make a list of aims that you want to meet that day, you’ll feel more energised from the start. As you tick each item off your list, you’ll also notice that you start to feel happier with every tick.

So, each morning sit down with a pen and paper, or grab your phone and open your ‘notes’ app, and write down three things that you want to achieve that day. It’s best to stick to three, otherwise you’re overloading yourself and being a little unrealistic with what you can achieve within the space of one working day at your office chair.

Use Positive Affirmations

Positive affirmations are great for giving you a happier and more positive outlook. Choose an affirmation that really resonates with what you’re trying to achieve, e.g. to be more productive or to feel more positive, or make up your own. Then, write it down, put it somewhere visible, and repeat it throughout the day, really listening to the words and feeling their meaning.

The more you repeat your affirmation, the more power it will have and the more your brain will recognise it to be a truth.

Write a ‘Thankful List’ at The End of Every Day

Writing a list of three things you’re thankful for at the end of every day can help you to develop a more positive outlook in general. This may also help you fall asleep more easily because you’re feeling content and happy, and as a result, you’ll be well-rested for the start of the next day.

Start Your Day in The Best Possible Way

Aside from getting between 7 to 8 hours of sleep every day, you should also make sure that you focus on starting the day in a positive and healthy way. This means eating a healthy breakfast, packed with vitamins and minerals and getting a little exercise and fresh air before you head to work.

Be Aware of Negative Thoughts

Another way to become more positive is to be aware when you’re having negative thoughts. Be mindful of these thoughts and then mentally push them away or replace them with a positive one. This is called reframing, and over time it can be a very useful and effective way to develop a more positive mindset.

These five techniques can be used every single day and will help you to develop a mindset which powers towards the positive end of the scale and takes you away from the negative. All you need is a little effort and a will to make it work. The benefits will come your way faster than you thought!
