5 Ways to Increase Morale in Your Office

Published on 31/07/2021

It’s normal for morale within an office to dip and flow. Small things can affect the way your employees feel as a whole and this can sometimes lead to a small issue that needs be addressed. However, it’s a manager’s job to always be on the lookout for morale problems and work to fix them before major dips occur.

You might think that raising morale is a huge thing and takes a lot of effort. The truth isn’t quite like that. Raising morale actually comes down to very small acts that have major effects on those who are sitting at their office desks from day to day.

To show you just how easy it can actually be, let’s look at 5 ways you can raise office morale

Listen to Your Employees

The simple act of actually listening to what your employees are telling you is vital. It’s so simple yet something that many managers fail to do! When an employee wants to talk to you about something or they have a problem, be sure to give them the time and really listen to what they have to say. Don’t just hear the words and forget them later. That does nothing for morale.

Ask For Opinions And Take Them on Board

When you ask your employees what they think about something, you’re showing them that you care about their suggestions and that you value them as a vital cog in the business wheel. However, you must take their suggestions on board and examine whether or not they’re things you can move forward with, and don’t just ask for the sake of it and don’t do anything about it.

Give Praise Where It’s Due

Everyone likes to hear “thank you”. It’s basic and it works wonders. When someone does something well or simply just because, be sure to say “thank you” and give praise when it’s due. Also be sure to praise people individually and also as a team so you’re not alienating anyone or making anyone feel pushed out or under appreciated.

Be Approachable

Employees want to know that they can come to you and talk about their problems if they need to. That means you need to be approachable and not a manager who often closes their door and acts completely uninterested.

Actively Look For Solutions

When an employee has an issue, work together to find a solution. This often means thinking outside of the box. Perhaps you need to offer flexible working for a short while, maybe you need to offer them a little extra support, or perhaps it’s something which can be solved simply by listening. Whatever the answer, search for it together.
