An office full of employees all working towards a common goal is called a team.
Teamwork is far more enjoyable than working alone for most people, however that doesn’t mean it’s without its challenges! Conflicts can often occur when strong personalities try to work together and there is an increased chance of misunderstandings too.
All of this can be overcome or at least reduced to a large amount by creating a strong sense of team spirit within a contemporary modern office. When everyone feels part of the team, they get along as well as they can (and some get along as friends too), everyone is motivated and everyone is clear in what their role is, the outcome is always positive.
It’s the role of a manager to ensure that their team has high team spirit and morale. Without these two things, the above scenario will not occur and if anything, quite the opposite will happen instead.
There are many qualities of a good manager we always hear about but being able to bring a team together, motivate and guide them is something which is often overlooked.
How to Create Team Spirit
How exactly do you create team spirit and ensure it remains? It’s not easy and it really depends upon the characters within the team, but there are a few common points you can bear in mind.
- Make sure that workloads are fair and equal across the board
- Have a collaborative approach to work, with regular brainstorming sessions around the modern boardroom tables
- Encourage employees to discuss and work together on projects
- Ensure that the team has a clear and common goal to reach
- Have regular team building days and exercises to build up team spirit
- Ensure morale is high within the office – this means valuing your employees, listening, and looking after their needs
- Make sure the team has clear direction and leadership
- Solve conflicts quickly
- Communicate well and always listen to your team’s needs and concerns
- Celebrate successes
These are all easy ways you can help to build up team spirit within the office and allow your employees to work together on projects. However, a lot of this also comes down to individual employees too. Not everyone feels comfortable working within a team and if that’s the case you need to encourage that particular employee and try and help them move out of their comfort zone.
Working as a team has many benefits and it also creates a far more pleasant working environment. By ensuring that team spirit is high, the advantages will quickly start rolling in.
