Do you regularly feel stressed?
This could be at home, in your regular life or whilst you’re sat at your designer office desk.
Stress is something we all need to try and kick out of our lives as much as possible, as living a life dictated by stress and feelings of negativity isn’t a happy life or a happy experience to be in the middle of.
Learning how to become more positive is a great starting point, and adopting a positive mental attitude will allow you to overcome many challenges in your life. Of course, it’s not easy to simply flick a switch and go from negative to positive, and it takes time and effort to reach that point.
Check out this video which helps you work towards that aim, with a range of positive affirmations to try.
There are many situations which can trigger stress. It can be a constant feeling over having too much work and not enough time, a period of change in the workplace which is causing you to feel anxious and unable to cope, or it can be something that is going on at home which spills over into other aspects of your life.
So, how does becoming more positive actually help you deal with all of this?
There is strength in positivity.
When you’re negative, you’re allowing self-defeating thoughts to take over your mind. As a result, you’re constantly pulling yourself down, looking on the dark side of life, and allowing unhelpful opinions and thoughts to become your go-to mindset. This means that when difficult situations come your way and cause you to feel stress, you’re going to succumb to them and become more stressed and down as a result.
However, when you learn how to become more positive, you’re stronger in your own mind. You look on the bright side first, rather than the negative side, and you have the tools and outlook to be able to deal with stress in a healthier and more productive way. If this is at your office chair, you’ll find ways to handle a difficult deadline or workload, and if it’s at home, you’ll find useful options to help you deal with situations that are causing you to feel a little unbalanced in some way.
Of course, this doesn’t mean that having a positive mental attitude is going to kick stress out of your life forever and you’re never going to have a down day. It’s normal to feel that way occasionally, but the keyword in that sentence is related to the frequency - occasionally.
You’ll find it easier to cope with situations because of your positive outlook and you won’t automatically revert to self-deprecating or damaging thoughts first and foremost. Any spells of being a little down won’t last as long and you’ll have the mental strength to be able to pull yourself up before negativity drags you further down.
Learning how to become more positive requires baby steps. It’s not going to happen overnight and you won’t feel major changes within a day or two. However, this gradual process will show you results in a slow and steady manner. You need to stick with it and have faith that it’s going to work. Once you do that, you’ll find that after a while, your default setting isn’t always negative and you’re able to challenge those thoughts and become more positive in general.
It’s hard because as humans our first setting is negativity. It’s designed to keep us safe and allow us to be sceptical so we survive situations. The problem is, we don’t need to survive the same situations that were around when this type of ‘fight or flight’ process was developed. So, a negative first setting isn’t required; instead, we need to become more upbeat and positive in order to survive today’s struggles, trials and tribulations, whether at our executive office desks or in our personal lives.
