How Does Sustainability Boost Morale

We hear so much these days about being environmentally friendly, but the bottom line is that if we want to leave behind a planet that is healthy and long-lasting for our children and our children’s children, we need to take action now!

Businesses are easily able to become more sustainable, and that not only does a huge favour to the environment, but it saves money too. It’s win win on so many levels. Choosing high end office furniture that is made of sustainable materials is one way to go, upgrading electrical equipment to be more energy efficient, and making ensuring there is a culture of recycling within the office environment is another.

Whilst sitting around boardroom conference tables brainstorming ways to be more sustainable, there is another element to take into account. Could becoming more sustainable actually boost employee morale?

Actually, yes.

The very knowledge that you’re doing something positive, something to help the planet, is morale boosting in itself. It creates a feel-good factor, and makes the office somewhere people want to work. In addition, many measures to actually achieve sustainability really improve the workability of an office, e.g. using natural light makes the office more comfortable and more upbeat in general, recycling old office desks creates more space, which again, makes the office easier to work in.

There are many ways to increase morale, but it turns out that becoming more sustainable and helping the environment can actually indirectly impact on morale too. Everyone wants to do their bit, and being part of a company who care about the future of the planet is something everyone wants.
