How much sleep do we need

Do you regularly feel like you’re about to fall asleep at your computer desk? If you are, the chances are you’re simply not getting enough sleep during the evening!

We’re falsely led to believe that sleep isn’t something we should place high on our importance list, but if you don’t get enough sleep, the effects go far beyond excessive yawning. Sleep deprivation is a severe issue and can lead to all manner of rather unpleasant effects, not least a complete inability to focus and concentrate, and a higher chance of making mistakes. Not something you want at work!

It doesn’t matter how much cool office furniture you have, or how much you love your job, if you’re not well-rested, you’re not going to be ‘switched on’ or productive.

So, how much sleep should you be getting? Check out this infographic for an interesting guide.

According to the NSF (National Sleep Foundation), adults need between 7 to 9 hours of shut eye every night in order to function healthily and correctly. Any less than this on a regular basis and you’ll notice an increase in sickness and sick days in your office, and a rather bleary-eyed workforce.

Part of your health and wellness package should be focused on self-care and getting enough sleep, and you can also help as an employer by ensuring your staff have the right kind of functional furniture, to make their working life far easier. Reducing stress, through personal methods, and by ensuring staff have what they need to do their job, will make sleep far easier to come by.
