How The Right Office Furniture Can Brighten Your Mood

Morale is a strong thing. The smallest of details can have a huge effect on how you feel, how you act, how productive you are, and how you are in your general view of the world on that particular day.

Within the workplace, morale is vital. Not only because when morale is high, the office is a far more pleasant place to work, but also because it has a direct impact on new ideas, suggestions and productivity in the end. Businesses are all about productivity, because of the other link with profitability.

When you think about the general design of your office, do you think it is pleasant? Comfortable? Attractive? What type of impression do you think visitors get when they walk in?

These are questions you need to explore if you want to create a space that not only impresses visitors but also ticks every box for your employees.

Within that, you also need to think about your office furniture

So, how can choosing the right type of office furniture actually boost morale within your office environment?

The Importance of The Right Office Furniture

Choosing office furniture that not only looks the part but is also comfortable and supportive is vital. Your employees spend a large amount of time sitting at their office chairs, at their desks and using the various different storage methods you have around your space, so you need to ensure that nothing untoward is happening as a result.

Ergonomic furniture is a great idea in open plan offices because the settings can be adjusted according to the needs of the person sitting there. So, if you have an agile working arrangement or hot desking, employees don’t have to sit at chairs which might not suit them and cause them to have backache at the end of the day.

You should also make sure that the type of desks and other furniture you choose are right for the purpose. For instance, bench desks and large circular tables are ideal for collaboration, but not ideal for computer work. Workstations are perfect for individual computer work, but again, won’t work so well when people need to collaborate and work together on projects. You could also look at modular office furniture or even look towards adaptable office furniture. The options are quite far-reaching.

It’s a good idea to ask your employees what they think and what types of office furniture they would like to see in your new modern office design. Perhaps they will come up with some new, innovative ideas that have the potential to change your office from mediocre to fantastic, just by purchasing a few new pieces here and there.

If you already have a large amount of furniture, you might be able to either refurbish it and make it look brand new, or you might think about recycling or gifting to a start-up who might be struggling with the cost of new furniture. If you choose to dispose of your furniture, you also need to make sure that you’re doing it in the right way, to fulfil your responsibility to the environment.

Furniture has the power to change how you feel, simply because it can affect whether or not you’re comfortable - it’s that simple. If you’re comfortable and you feel supported whilst sitting at a designer office desk, you’re not going to be in an automatic bad mood. However, imagine sitting at a very uncomfortable chair all day long - do you think you’re going to be in a good mood at the end of it? Do you think you’ll relish going back the next day? Of course not.

Morale can be drastically affected by your choice of office furniture, so it’s certainly worthwhile choosing your pieces carefully. You should also ask your employees if they have any suggestions and what they think; after all, they’re the ones who are going to be using it on a day to day basis!
