How to Ensure That Workload is Fair And Even

Published on 17/10/2019

As a manager, you need to ensure that the workload you give to your employees is fair and even across the board. Failure to do so can result in stress and poor morale, neither of which are routes you want to go down!

So, how can you ensure that the work you give to those in their office chairs is even?

  • Be aware of specific roles and their demands
  • Always consult with a member of staff before giving them an extra task to do
  • Watch for staff members who might seem overwhelmed or stressed
  • Look at productivity, the number of missed deadlines, and the number of mistakes being made - sure signs of a heavy workload
  • Have an open-door policy which encourages staff members to talk to you if they feel they have too much work to do

Giving a member of staff too much work to do, whilst another member of staff has far less, is going to detrimentally affect morale within the office and possibly even cause conflict. It’s important to ensure that you have equality across the board.

If you feel like you have a heavy workload yourself, never try and handle something you feel is overwhelming. Instead, speak your manager. In the meantime, however, check out this video which gives some useful tips on handing a heavy workload.
