You’ve surely heard of a breakout space, but what about a touchdown area? Is this something you’re familiar with?
A touchdown area is a useful space within your office for staff who pop in and out, e.g. remote workers. In this case, they can call into the office and complete small tasks, without interrupting the work of those sat in the main office chairs of the open plan space.
A touchdown area isn’t meant to be used for more than an hour at the maximum, but it is a space which can be productive for the time it is used for. You will need new office furniture if you’re thinking about incorporating a touchdown area, and it’s a good idea to go down the line of a modular office desk or two, which can be moved around whenever the need arises.
So, what are the rules for incorporating a touchdown area in your space?
- Place the touchdown area away from the main office space, perhaps near to the main door
- Ensure comfortable and supportive furniture, but not to the same degree as your main office
- Have available within the space
- Think about high stools, tub chairs and other seating arrangements for those having a quick catch up, perhaps prior to a meeting
