How to Prepare For an Appraisal

Published on 11/11/2019

The word ‘appraisal’ doesn’t tend to be met with much enthusiasm. The reason? There is a huge stigma around the idea of yearly appraisals, but the truth is that they’re actually a very valuable development tool.

Appraisals shouldn’t be used to point out a constant stream of negatives. Instead, they should be used to highlight positives, mention any possible issues, and to put together a development plan for the future. There are many alternatives to appraisals, but most businesses stick with this same model.

Before you attend the appraisal it’s a good idea to make some notes from your office desks about what you’d like to discuss and any training requests you might have. You might also be asked to fill in a pre-appraisal form or a self-appraisal. Check out this infographic which highlights a few main points to remember.
