Is Working From Home Really For You?

Working from home

There’s no denying that working from home has many advantages attached to it, but it has many downsides too. This flexible working arrangement certainly isn’t for everyone, so how can you be sure that it’s really for you before you take the plunge?

Ask yourself these questions:

  • Do you have enough space?
  • Are you able to create a home office within your space?
  • Are you able to motivate yourself to get the job done, when you don’t have a set structure in place?
  • Do you have self-discipline?
  • Do you have high speed Internet within your home?
  • Are you able to deal with a quieter working environment or a slight amount of isolation?

If you can agree with the above, and you have space for the right types of supportive office furniture, then home working could be a great route forward for you. The three biggest downsides are not being able to deal with distractions, not having the space, in order to create the right working environment, and not being able to deal with the transition between working in a large and busy office, to working alone, somewhere far quieter.

Knowing what the downsides are before you attempt it can help you overcome them. Despite the negatives, working from home could give you the perfect home and work life balance, and allow you to fit all sides of your life into the puzzle with a greater sense of ease.
