In order for staff to be comfortable within their working space, whether at their office seating or moving around, they need to have a regular and comfortable temperature and they need plenty of fresh air. This is difficult considering offices are generally indoors, so how can you ensure that there is enough quality ventilation in and around your office space?
The dangers of poor air quality are more serious than you might think. Check out this infographic by British Gypsum which highlights the problem.

As you can see, having quality ventilation is vital, but there are many mistakes that offices make.
- Do open the windows – Open those windows and let in the fresh air! Natural and fresh is always better than artificial and will help to make your employees far more comfortable and focused. Have you thought of window fans?
- Don’t forget to service your air conditioning machines – As a general rule, air con machines should be serviced by a professional every year. When you do this is up to you, but most companies recommend servicing at the start of spring, just before the machine is going to be used more in the summer months.
Broken air conditioning isn’t going to make a great first impression to those sat in your reception chairs!
- Do follow boiler servicing rules – Make sure you keep up to date with your boiler’s annual servicing and have any issues checked out as quickly as possible. It’s also a good idea to replace your boiler if it is a little on the old side (8 years upwards).
Doing this will save you money on energy efficiency, and it will ensure no problems are brewing.
- Don’t forget greenery – Having plants in the office can help to purify the air quality, and this is a very cheap and very effective way to ensure better quality ventilation.
You could also think about adding mesh chairs, as these help with air circulation around the body, and these are particularly good for collaborative areas too.
