Teamwork or Individual Work - Which Do You Prefer?

Published on 15/04/2021

When you work in an office, the days can be long if you’re not enjoying the work you’re doing. Sitting at your office desk for several hours per day can seem like double the time. This type of situation doesn’t make you relish going to work every day!

On the other hand, when you enjoy the work you do, the days go faster and you’re more likely to actually want to get up and go to work. Sure, you might not feel like rolling out of bed and sitting at your office desk every single day, but the effort is far less compared to the first situation!

When it comes to achieving business success, employers need to ensure that their employees are comfortable, supported, and challenged in their work. It also means coming up with innovative ways for people to work, to ensure that they feel productive and they enjoy what they do.

What is your personal opinion – Do you prefer to work as part of a team, with other people, or do you prefer to work alone?

For many people, it’s a mixture of both, depending upon their mood on the day and the task that they need to complete. One thing is for sure, when a team work well together, employee productivity certainly increases.

Of course, when teams don’t gel or don’t work well, the opposite can be true. Check out this video which talks about a few secrets Google wants us to know about successful teamwork.

You might have some employees within your office who prefer to sit at their office chairs and work on their own. By giving the opportunities to do that regularly, you’ll get the best out of them, but should you allow them to isolate themselves and work alone all the time? Probably not. It comes down to finding a blend that allows employees to find a route towards their own maximised productivity and enjoyment. The agile office does that to a large degree.

In the agile office, employees choose where they work and who they work with, according to the task that they need to complete. The office is divided into zones and employees choose their ideal spot. This means that everyone is working towards a common aim, i.e. teamwork, but they’re doing it in a way which suits them. This type of method helps to increase employee motivation and therefore productivity.

Whether you’re someone who prefers to work alone or as part of a team, it’s a good idea to have a mixture of both.
