The Power of Confidence

Do you consider yourself to be a confident person?

Most of us could do with a little work on our confidence levels, but how do you rate yourself at this current time?

Some people have too much confidence, that’s for sure, but if you’re someone who feels they’re in the middle of the scale, i.e. you know who you are but you sometimes wobble a little, it’s a good idea to try and solidify your confidence and grab the endless benefits as a result.

You see, when you’re confident, you’re happier and you’re healthier. You’re more likely to seek out new opportunities and go for them. You’re more likely to actually set goals and achieve them. You’re more likely to have strong and positive relationships with other people.

Being confident, provided it doesn’t air into arrogance territory, doesn’t have a downside.

Workplace confidence is something which will certainly take you far. By having confidence in your ability to do your job at your office desk, you’re more likely to avoid making uncharacteristic mistakes, you’ll impress and when you’re sat around the boardroom tables, you’ll come up with new and creative ideas. Of course, it’s also a far happier way to utilise the hours you spend at your office desk.

To give you an idea of what you might need to work on, check out this infographic which talks you through how to become more self-confident in general.

Believing in yourself is the first step, and that also means trying your best to be more positive. Positivity and confidence work hand in hand. When you’re positive, you’ll notice that your confidence increases. When you’re confident, you’ll find it far easier to think in a positive way.

When you’re confident and positive, you’ll also find it much easier to deal with stress, both at home and at work.

The Main Traits of a Confident Person

We know that confidence is powerful. We know that it can help to give you a happier life, and it can also open doors that would otherwise have remained closed, but what does a confident person look like?

  • They have a certain poise about them - A confident person walks with a sense of self-assuredness
  • They make eye contact when talking to another person - Looking away and refusing to make eye contact is a trait of someone who is lacking confidence or someone who is lying
  • They know who they are and they stay true to it - A confident person understands themselves and they don’t sacrifice their personal beliefs for another person. They’re strong and dignified
  • They care about how they look, but not the point of vanity - A confident person cares about how they look, but they dress for themselves alone
  • They keep a level head and they make strong and firm decisions - A confident person is able to deal with stress by keeping a strong and level head when everything around them may be going crazy
  • They have no problems standing up for another person - If they see someone being treated in an unfair way, a confident person will stick up for them and help them overcome the problem
  • They try to do the right thing as much as possible - Of course, this doesn’t mean that confident people are never wrong, but they have an intention to do the right thing at the very least.

How many of those traits can you honestly say that you have? You probably have some, but maybe there are also a few you need to work on. That’s fine, we’re constantly evolving and learning and that means you can continue to grow as a person too.

By focusing on confidence, you’ll see a huge change in your life, both at work and in your personal life. It’s a change that will increase your health and wellbeing and also benefit the relationships in your life.
