If you’re looking to change the appearance of your office, you might be confused about whether you need to start tearing down walls and completing changing the construction of your office, or whether you can tone it down a little and save a little cash in the process.
Changing how an office looks and its overall design doesn’t necessarily have to cost the Earth, but there are certain things you need to bear in mind. For instance, what is your aim? How do you want the office to look? Is your plan even possible? How much is it going to cost?
It’s vital that you carefully plan your office renovation before you start, covering all questions and bases. Check out this video which talks a little about successful planning before an office renovation.
Of course, it might be that you don’t want to completely rip your office out and start again, you might want to go somewhere in the middle, or a little less on the office design scale. In that case, what are the alternatives to an office renovation?
Redecoration
You can drastically change how your office looks with a redecoration. This means changing the colour of the walls, perhaps getting a new carpet and changing the overall decor design, but not touching the office furniture or the actual structure of the office.
A dark office can easily be changed by opting for a lighter colour and you’ll be surprised at the difference in feel and appearance. Opting for brighter colours could also change how creative your space feels and if you add in some office plants here and there and go for biophilic design, you’ll gain even more benefits.
A redecoration is a good option if you’re happy with the office desks, chairs, storage units, etc that you already have and you don’t really want to go down the route of a complete overhaul.
Refurbishment
Refurbishment is somewhere in the middle between a redecoration and a renovation and basically means that you’re taking what you already have and you’re making it look almost new or improving its appearance.
You might change the decor in line with a refurbishment but you might also take the storage units you have and refurbish them to make them look brand new once more. You could cover over your sofas in a different fabric and colour, creating the illusion of a brand new reception sofa, etc.
This can be a good option for startups, perhaps those who have inherited older office furniture and want to bring it up to current day standards.
Small Changes Here And There
The final option is simply to make a few changes here and there. In some cases, small changes can have a drastic effect. We mentioned a redecoration, and this option is very similar but basically encompasses anything that you want to change. You might buy a new range of office desks and it completely revolutionises the look of your space. You might simply buy a new carpet and open the windows a little more, and before you know it, the whole feel of your space is totally different.
As you can see, you don’t always have to completely renovate your office in order to make changes. Sometimes you can simply alter a few things, maybe redecorate in general, and the office will feel like it’s brand new. Despite that, it is a good idea to commit to revamping your office space every so often. How often depends upon your space and how much of a budget you have, but if you’re looking at your office and it still looks the same as it did 15 years ago, it’s perhaps time for a change around!
You know what they say - a change is as good as a rest!
