What Office Chair is Best For a Home Worker?

When you’re looking for home office furniture, you’ll certainly think about a desk and office chair as your first port of call. That is right - these are your essentials!

Home offices tend to have a more laid-back feel, compared to a regular contemporary office environment. However, they still need to be comfortable and they need to offer you the same type of support to avoid musculoskeletal problems becoming a problem over time.

One of the most common questions asked is around office chairs for a home office set up

You might not want to go down the line of a large chair, i.e. the executive office chairs which are quite bulky, especially if you are short on space. These are ideal for large offices, but if you have a small office or even a corner which you’re using as your home office, your chair is going to totally dominate the space and perhaps look out of place!

So, what are the alternatives?

The good news is that there are many choices you can look into and even ergonomic chairs don’t have to look big and bulky these days. Many ergonomic options have been streamlined to fit into home office spaces, and that will certainly give you a more comfortable experience whilst you’re working away at home. You can adjust your chair for your own bespoke fit, and then you’ll reduce your chances of developing neck and backache over time.

Of course, any chair you choose requires you to sit in it properly. It’s easier with ergonomic options because they almost force you to sit in the right position, but other chairs rely upon you knowing the best sitting position for optimum health. Check out this video which talks about how you should sit at your office desk during your working day.

One thing is for sure, grabbing a regular wooden chair from the kitchen is not going to be a supportive or comfortable option for you whilst you’re working. If you’re not keen on the ergonomic option, how about a mesh chair. These are comfortable, they come in a variety of different funky colours, and the mesh material means that air circulates around your body, therefore keeping you cool whilst you’re tapping away at your keyboard.

You could also go down the line of office tub chairs. Again, these come in a variety of different patterns and colours and they look really funky as part of a colourful and modern home office design. Provided you sit correctly, as we’ve seen in the video, and you get up and move around on a regular basis, a tub chair could be a great addition to your home office!

The biggest no-no of working from home is not having a home office at all. Some people choose to sit on their sofas with their laptop on their knee, or even worse, sit in bed. It might sound idyllic but it’s not going to do much for your back or your neck over the long-term. You’ll quickly start to feel aches and pains and that isn’t really what you’re supposed to be aiming towards!

In that case, it’s far better to have a space you work in. Not only will that ensure a more comfortable working experience for you but it will also mean that you’re in the right frame of mind for work. When you’re sat at your sofa, you’re surely going to be tempted to turn the TV on and that’s not going to do much for your productivity levels!

Choosing the right home office furniture means that your office will be comfortable during your working hours but it will also fit into your home design and seriously look the part. When you’re proud of the space you’ve created, you’re more likely to want to sit in it and get your work done!
