We all know that office plants look the part but did you know they have some great health benefits too? For instance, having the right office plants in your space could actually help to purify the air in some cases and reduce workplace stress too.
This is called biophilic office design and basically means that you’re bringing elements of nature into the space and benefiting from them as a result. Anything natural is instantly calming and when you have office plants dotted around strategically, you’re helping your employees to soak up that calming vibe, therefore meaning that stress is less likely.
But, what plants are best for offices?
Here are a few ideas:
- Snake plant
- Spider plant
- English ivy
- Boston fern
- Weeping fig
These are all pretty easy to look after and require minimal maintenance. Of course, you’ll need to water them regularly but that’s not a major task! As far as office interior design ideas go, plants are a great addition and something which will add productivity to your space.
Of course, you can also use this advice in your home office, your general home environment and your commercial office. Check out this video which gives some advice on how to choose the right plants in all settings.
It’s not particularly expensive to add hints of nature to your space but if you want to go all-out, you can do so. In that case, how about a living wall or a large tree in the middle of your office? Yes, it’s possible! You can also think about decor and be natural in that regard, by choosing colours such as beige, brown, blue, green, yellow, etc. Also consider wooden flooring and make sure that you utilise natural light and fresh air in your space as much as possible.
There isn’t a lot of downside to a biophilic office. Yes, the maintenance is there but it’s not going to take over your day. As long as you choose plants that require very minimal looking after, then you can easily grab the benefits and notice a less stressful feel in your office in general. Your employees will thank you as they sit at their office chairs, getting on with their working days!
