Must Know Facts About Employee Engagement:

For the second part of this week’s collection of workplace facts, Calibre Office Furniture presents to you a selection of must know facts on employee engagement.

As employees are one of the most important assets of every business, it is essential for them to give their 100% and stay fully engaged during work hours. Let’s begin by defining what employee engagement even is. According to Office Vibe "employee engagement is the emotional commitment that an employee has towards an organisation". This urged me us to further investigate the key drivers of employee engagement in the workplace and found another article from Office Vibe, which explores this concept further.

Before we start discussing some of the main employee engagement pillars included in the article in detail, we want to bring your attention to a couple of stats that are outlined at the beginning of it. Accordingly, past studies have found that 87% of employees are not engaged in their jobs. This percentage, if true, is no doubt extortionately high and can lead to several problems such as a rise in staff absenteeism and staff turnover levels. Therefore, the aim of the business game should really be to be consistently practising as many of these pillars as possible at your organisation.

From our perspective, all employee engagement pillars highlighted in this article are equally important and assist towards achieving a more profitable business. While going through these, we have noticed that many of these are associated with forming healthy relationships with others in the workplace ranging from our managers to our fellow colleagues.

For example, in order to improve your relationship with your line manager and for you to remain engaged it’s crucial for your manager to provide you with some form of coaching sessions, regular feedback and give you opportunities to develop your career further.

Moreover, staff happiness (second pillar) in our eyes is greatly important to get right and probably one of the most difficult to achieve. As suggested in the infographic, a promising start to acquire a happier workforce would be to show each other respect, ask for ideas and show genuine concern. Regardless of our personality type, we should always treat others the way we want to be treated and this will guarantee to increase the number of engaged employees in the workplace.

In our opinion, employee happiness is also determined by having the basic office essentials in place, so ensure all the necessary office furniture items are available for your staff members if you want them to remain engaged. FACT!!!
