Published on 24/11/2020

When you’re working at home, it’s easy to become distracted, but it can also be a very productive way to work too. It all comes down to getting the balance right and learning how to avoid distractions that may come your way.

Hunger is certainly a distraction that nags away at you. A growling stomach and an inability to concentrate aren't ideal for productivity! That means you need to know what to snack on in order to keep your hunger at bay, but also to ensure that you don’t suffer from those famous sugar highs and lows that are associated with eating sugary and unhealthy snacks.

Whilst you’re sitting at your small home office desk, it’s a good idea to have some prepared snacks ready to grab. For some inspiration, let’s check out 6 of the best snacks for productive work.

Water

First let’s start with a snack that isn’t food but is certainly something to help you stay on track and to hydrate your mind and body. Drinking plenty of water throughout the day can starve off hunger, simply because most of the time when we think we’re hungry, we’re actually thirsty. Keep a bottle of water on your desk and fill it up whenever you feel a pang.

Bananas

Packed with potassium but also a source of glucose, bananas give you energy and keep you going when other snacks might fail. They’re also going to keep you fuller for longer, so you’re not going to be constantly snacking when you should be sat at your office chair, working!

Almonds

One of the best working from home tips is to have a handful of almonds in a bowl on your desk. Not only are they full of healthy fats, but they’re also a source of protein, so you’re going to stay full and have a brain boost at the same time.

Apples

They say that ‘an apple a day keeps the doctor away’ but an apple also keeps procrastination away! Apples have just enough sugar in to give you that little bit of energy you need to overcome a mid-afternoon slump in concentration.

Eggs

Boil some eggs and snack on those when you’re feeling peckish. Eggs contain choline which is ideal for boosting your reaction times but which will also give your memory a boost at th same time. The ideal snack for productivity.

Carrot Sticks

Packed with vitamins and luteolin, which is ideal for boosting your memory and helping you to overcome energy slumps. Cutting up a few carrots into sticks is an easy snack and also delicious when paired with hummus.

Step away from the sugary snacks, the chocolate, the sweets and the diet soda and instead focus on the snacks we’ve mentioned above. Not only will you avoid hunger pangs but you’ll also have a boost of concentration and focus that will get you through to the end both working day in the most productive of manners.
