How Are Profits And Motivation Linked?

Published on 19/12/2019

Businesses need three things to survive in this cutthroat world - productivity, growth, and profits. Without those three things, the business is sure to fail at some point in the near future.

In order to ensure that productivity and growth are directly impacted by increased profitability, businesses need to look towards their most vital assets - their employees.

Your employees are the ones who do everything in your business. They speak to the customers, they attract new clients, they ensure that everyone is happy and that nobody is put off doing future business with you because of a complaint, they’re sat at their office desks working hard every day and they’re coming up with new ideas around the modern boardroom tables, pushing your business towards growth.

All of this is done by those you see day in day out in the office space. With that in mind, you need to focus on their health and wellbeing, you need to ensure that they feel valued and supported, and you need to do everything you can to inspire and motivate them during their working hours.

How Does Morale Affect Profits?

There is a direct link between morale and profits which we can’t ignore and motivation in the workplace pushes morale to higher levels.

When employees are happy, they want to do more for those who are employing them. This is because they feel valued, they feel like their employers care about them and they have an invested interest in the success of the team. At the end of the day, the success or otherwise of the team reflects on them too.

In order to increase motivation in the workplace, you need to focus on morale first and foremost. When you do this, you’ll notice that motivation increases naturally as a very pleasant side effect. Then, over time, productivity rises, which forces profits upwards.

If you picture it as a flow chart, the destination is always the same - more cash for the business, simply by focusing on your employees and doing the right thing.

Increasing morale and motivation is actually far easier than you think and can be done by ensuring that your employees are comfortable and supported in their contemporary office design first and foremost. Nobody is going to be in a good mood if their back is hurting after a long day of sitting at an uncomfortable chair, and nobody is going to want to work harder and do more if they’re constantly suffering from wrist ache, simply because their office desk isn’t aligned properly.

The simplest things can affect the way someone feels, so make sure you cover the basics first of all. By doing that, you’ll be surprised at the pleasant effects.

Of course, looking at the human side of things is also vital. That means ensuring that your employees feel valued, cared about and that you are investing in their personal career development. Offer new responsibilities for those who want to take them, don’t load each employee with too much to do, and offer training courses for those who want to increase their skillset and knowledge. When promotions come along, let everyone who is interested apply and don’t always go towards external candidates as the first port of call.

You could also think about offering support to a local charity. This has many different benefits, not least doing something wonderful for a great cause. Your employees will see that you care about the community and will feel proud to work for you. As a result, they’ll be motivated to help you achieve more and therefore help even more too.

Focusing on your employees and avoiding going down the line of huge publicity and external interests means that you’re actually investing in them as people. That is the single best way to increase morale, boost motivation in the workplace, and therefore watch productivity and profits rise. That’s an equation that really doesn’t have a downside!
