Happy vs Unhappy Workers

We all know that a person who is happy in their job is going to work harder than someone who is miserable. This is simply part and parcel of being human. Ensuring that your staff are fulfilled and content whilst sat at their office desks is important on so many levels.

Check out this infographic for a few hints on why

With that in mind, as an employer, how can you tell if your staff are happy on the inside, or otherwise?

Much of this comes down to knowing your employees well, and being able to read them whilst they’re going about their daily work.
Of course, everyone has ups and downs, and it’s vital that you don’t mistake a home problem causing a temporary upset, for a major work problem. A good way to get around this is to encourage your staff to speak to you if they have anything they want to get off their chest. An open door policy and open lines of communication is a good way to achieve this.

It’s also about observing people in their work. For instance, if you’re all sat at the conference room furniture and an employee who is normally quite vocal is quiet for the second week in a row, this could be a sign of a problem. Similarly, if someone who is normally quite innovative during sessions at the collaborative office furniture is lacking in ideas and shows negative body language persistently, again that could be a sign of concern.

Understanding your employees and doing your best to ensure high morale is vital. Remember, there is a direct link between morale and profits!

Can you think of any other signs of happiness versus unhappiness?
