How to Incorporate Walking Meetings

Walking meeting

We all know that exercise is beneficial, and we know that fresh air is too – how about incorporating the two and holding small walking meetings? Walking meetings are the new ‘in thing’, and basically means that you’re getting away from the conference table and discussing non-sensitive issues on the go. There are a multitude of benefits, but how are you supposed to start?

  • Small walking meetings are idea – Larger groups simply won’t be able to make themselves heard, so stick with three or four people maximum
  • Plan where you’re going to go – It’s a good idea to plan out your route, so you don’t get confused or distracted
  • Inform your staff first – It’s a good idea to let those involved know that you’re going out walking and not to spring it on them as a surprise!
  • Take a voice recording device or have note taking apps downloaded

Whilst sitting around meeting room chairs and having larger discussions are always going to be part and parcel of office life, smaller groups will find a great focus and idea boost from heading outside. If you find that your groups are too large for walking meetings, you can try and bring an outdoorsy vibe into your meeting room, with bespoke boardroom furniture, plenty of fresh air and natural light, and a few plants here and there. It’s not always possible to incorporate walking meetings, especially for larger groups, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still obtain the idea-boosting benefits of nature.

How do you feel about walking meetings; is it something you’ve tried?
