Let’s be Honest – Are Treadmill Desks Ever Going to be a ‘Thing’?

Active desking - Treadmill desk

Office design trends are always changing, and that means new technology and working methods coming to the fore. You’ve – no doubt – heard of standing desks, but what about treadmill desks? Are we about to do away with office chairs for good?

You’ve probably heard of them too, but thrown the idea to one side; who wants to run on a treadmill whilst working? Well, obviously you won’t be running, there are health and safety regulations to take into account! Instead, you’ll be walking at a slow pace whilst doing your work. Evidence suggests that a little exercise such as this is enough to boost focus and therefore boost productivity, whilst keeping you far away from those sedentary lifestyle risk factors.

What do you think of these types of desks? They’re probably not for everybody, and that leads us to ask whether they’re going to be a rather expensive flash in the pan, or whether they really will become a ‘thing’ in the regular office furniture world.

Let’s be honest, this type of equipment is expensive, so unless a business is doing very well indeed, it’s unlikely that every member of staff in the office is going to be using a treadmill desk. On the other hand, one or two in the office could be enough. It’s about personal choice, and it’s about weighing up what will work for your office space and what won’t.

Here at Calibre, we’re all about being as active as possible in the office, but what do you think about these types of desks?
