Mother’s Day Gift Ideas – Our Top Picks

Published on 23/02/2018

Mother’s Day is almost upon us, and that means we need to turn our attention to gift ideas for the most important lady in our lives. Don’t be the guy or girl who forgets and ends up grabbing a rather lack-lustre bunch of flowers from the nearest garage, or a box of chocolates that was luckily left on the supermarket shelf – put some thought into it ahead of time!

Whether you agree that these special days really have much behind them, or whether they’re money making schemes by card companies, the fact remains that you should be thanking the woman who gave you life, and it shouldn’t just be on one day of the year!

So, what do you buy your mother on mother’s day?

Of course, it totally depends on what her personal likes and dislikes are. By putting some thought into it, you can really give your gift the personal touch. If you know your mother isn’t a fan of the cinema, don’t go buying her cinema tickets! If you know your mother loves roses, buy something with a nod to roses on it – it’s not rocket science!

Here at Calibre Office Furniture, we’ve put some real thought into this gift-buying quandary, and we’re going to help you come up with a few useful and touching presents to buy your mum on this special day.

A Picture From The Past

Mums are sentimental, this is a common fact, even if they don’t admit it openly! Find the most together photo of your family you can, perhaps one from your childhood, and source a beautiful photo frame to put it in. If you have siblings and you all live apart, put some effort in to getting an up to date photo opportunity and present it to your mum on Mothering Sunday. You can guarantee there will be tears, but the happy type!

Finding a beautiful frame that fits in with her home decor is also showing that you took the time and effort into your gift, so shop around. If your mother works from home or spends a lot of time in a home office environment, make sure your frame fits in with her other office storage furniture, to keep her decor constant.

Personalised Flowers

Don’t just go down the shop-bought option, instead think about her favourite colours and scents, and put together a bespoke bouquet or arrangement for her. You can do this online if you’re short on time, or you can head out to the nearest florist. Remember that close to Mother’s Day these types of places are very busy, so head there a few days beforehand and secure your order! Some large, beautiful orchids perhaps, or maybe roses – whatever her favourite flower and colour is, make sure it features heavily. It’s all about the personalised little hints that make the difference.

To take it a step further, you could source out a beautiful ceramic vase for her to put her flowers in once they are out of the arrangement packaging too!

Get Crafty!

We all know that making something shows you put in the time and effort, and this is a really touching thing for a mum on Mother’s Day. Perhaps make a photo frame, get Decopatch happy and create an ornament, or make your Mother’s Day card yourself. Basically, it’s about showing your love through your time and dedication.

Think of Something Useful

Gifts don’t always have to be something fancy and cute, they can be something functional and useful in every day life too. We’re not suggesting you go around buying something for the kitchen or house that your mum is simply not going to appreciate, but if she has a particular interest, then looking into what you can do in that theme is a good idea. For instance, if your mum works from home, perhaps she freelances, then how about looking at home office furniture? You could buy her some funky office chairs, or one of the many fancy yet functional office desks around. She’ll be grateful, appreciative, and touched that you thought of her particular interests too.

Event Tickets

Does your mother have a crush on a particular singer? Does she love a certain show? If so, look into whether there are any shows or concerts on in the near future. The show doesn’t have to be right at that moment, it can be in a few months’ time, but the point is that you purchase tickets to present to her on Mother’s Day. You could take it a step further and plan a whole day around the event, e.g. dinner before the show, a night in a hotel, or maybe a spa day to tie in with it all. Basically, plan out a full day of fun, leading up to the event, that you can enjoy together, as mother and daughter, or mother and son. Print out the confirmations and give them to her on Mother’s Day. Cue the tears!

Whatever you choose to buy the most special lady in your life, make sure that it is about her, and not about something generic. Women in general (whether you are one or not) will tell you that gifts are all about the small details and thought that goes into it behind the story, not about how much it cost. Picking out the most beautiful picture frame, with a special photo inside, is going to be worth so much more to your mother than an all expenses paid trip to the theatre.
