Let's Discuss - Sit Down, Stand up, Stretch!

We recently came across an interesting infographic recreated by Just Stand, which paints a rather grim picture of those living an overly sedentary lifestyle.

Okay, so we know we should be eating healthily and exercising regularly, but what about work? If you work in an office that means a huge amount of your day is going to be spent sat down at office desks. That’s the height of sedentary, even though your brain and fingers are active tapping away at a keyboard!

Just Stand categorise something called ‘sitting disease’. This isn’t an actual disease, but a term they coin for the effects of sitting down too much. This means a higher chance of heart disease and heart-related issues, a higher diabetes risk, and all the general risks, which go hand in hand with not exercising on a regular basis.

Within that infographic, there were some interesting statistics. What do you make of these?

•   Around 60% of US employees in the survey thought they would be more productive if they could stand up to work

•   67% wished their employers would offer a height adjustable desk to them, so they could sit or stand

It seems we want to stand, or at least we want the choice!
