Pros And Cons of Offering Flexible Working For an Employee

A serene blend between a home life and a working life is the aim most of us should be working towards. Of course, it shouldn’t be too difficult, but the demands of life in general have a habit of getting in the way! With that in mind, flexible working could be just the ticket to improve your balance, and give you a host of other advantages too.

Flexible working can mean many different things. It can be working completely remotely, it can mean working part of the time at your office desk and part of the time away, or it can mean having the freedom to decide when you’re in the office and when you’re not, in a fluid arrangement. It really comes down to the choice you and your employer make together.

Of course, there are pros and cons to everything, and whilst flexible working might sound amazing at first, it’s important to delve a little deeper.

The pro's of flexible working for an employee are:

  • A better home and work life balance
  • The ability to fit appointments and other responsibilities into your working week
  • Increased job satisfaction
  • Usually a less stressful way of working
  • Less need to commute to work, saving the planet and your cash

The con's of flexible working for an employee are:

  • Working away from the office can be lonely
  • You may not be as up to date with new developments
  • Communication can be an issue
  • Possibly the need to set up a home office, with commercial office furniture

It’s important to weigh up the pros and cons and reach a decision that suits you personally.
Sitting in your office chair isn’t all bad, after all!
