Let's Discuss: Would You Stand up to a Workplace Bully?

Published on 16/11/2018

Unfortunately, bullying isn’t something that only happens in schools, it’s something which happens throughout life, in various situations. It has to stop. Bullying is wrong, it is something which can adversely affect a person’s mental health.

Every organisation needs an anti-bullying in the workplace policy, but if you saw it happening in front of your eyes, would you do anything about it? It’s natural to feel a little worried about interfering in a situation, especially when you see a colleague being harassed, but doing something is vital.

Check out this video to explain the point a little clearer.

As you can see, in this video the guy sticks up for his co-worker and confronts the bullies, being very clear in his disapproval and demanding a change, otherwise he will take it further. Go somewhere private, perhaps to the breakout space, and say what you need to say. Talk in normal language, don’t talk down, and as in the video, shake hands with them at the end to keep everything fine between you.

Bullying isn’t about having a petty office argument over office furniture sets or a project, it’s about personal remarks and harassment which need to stop.

As in the video, if you do nothing, you’re as bad as the bully. Doing something can make a positive change.
