Music and productivity at work

Most of us will admit to being music lovers, but is there a time and a place? How do you feel about music playing in the background whilst you’re working in the office? For many workplaces, music is a part of the office furniture

Some people love it, some people find it distracting. For most, it’s a personal deal, and much of it depends on the type of work being done. You don’t want to be sat in an office chair listening to death metal whilst you’re trying to concentrate!

We found this interesting infographic which surveyed a sample of Australian workers, to find out their views on music in the workplace. The results were surprising, and it seems that music is just as important in an office as colors for influencing mood!

As you can see, 61% of employees said they listen to music at work because it makes them more productive and lifts their mood. It was found that fast music or rock songs are best for collaboration, but when you need to concentrate, perhaps when it’s time to use office desk screens for privacy, instrumental or classic tunes are best.

Of course, volume is important too. You can’t have music on too loud and expect people to be able to focus!

What do you think about music in the office? Is it a do or a don’t for you?
