5 Ways to Increase Team Spirit Quickly

Published on 30/06/2021

Working within an office can be a challenge sometimes. No working environment is always upbeat and positive. However, when you’re working within a team of people who aren’t pulling together and don’t have a large amount of team spirit, the experience is less than enjoyable.

We all need to be far more focused on mental health in the workplace. There are many things which can contribute towards it, but working within a poor team environment is one of them. This can easy lead to workplace stress, conflict, and poor morale. None of these are situations anyone wants to invite into their life needlessly.

As a manager, it’s your job to try and raise team spirit and bring a more positive feel into the office. Then, your employees sitting at their office desks will enjoy their working days more often than they feel drained by them.

Check out this infographic which talks about why team spirit is important and what it’s all about.

So, how can you increase the amount of team spirit in your workplace?

Ask people what they want and make sure you listen

Your employees want to be heard. That means asking them what they want to make their working lives better and you actually listening to what they say. You might not be able to act on every suggestion, but there are bound to be plenty that you can.

Organise social events and team building days

If you want to pull people together, there is no better way than to organise social events every so often and team building days. How about a monthly meal out for the office? Cakes on a Friday afternoon? A team building day every few months? This all makes working life more enjoyable and encourages team working.

Remember to show your appreciation

Don’t be the manager that only ever tells people when they do something wrong. Make sure you give praise when it’s due too. You can praise individuals when necessary and you can also praise the entire team. ‘Thank you’ is a phrase that isn’t used enough in the modern workplace.

Add a competitive edge

Everyone enjoys a little competition! However, you need to make sure that you’re not creating a situation in which people may feel pressured. In that case, challenge the entire team to reach a target (a realistic one) and offer an incentive, such as a free meal, a small bonus, etc.

Create a situation that makes teamwork easy

Breakout furniture, office booths, outdoor spaces, modern boardroom tables, these are all options you can use to create. The easier you make it for people to work together, the more they’ll want to do it.
