4 Ways to Maintain Team Spirit Whilst Working From Home

Published on 24/11/2020

Whilst working from home it’s very easy to lose yourself in isolation. You become cut off and in some ways it becomes your new normal. However, when you’re working as part of a team, albeit remotely, it’s important to stay connected and keep the team spirit alive as much as possible.

Many of us have been forced into remote work due to the COVID-19 situation, but staying close to your colleagues is entirely possible thanks to the Internet. Can you imagine if this pandemic had hit before we had such developed technology? Staying in touch would have been much harder and work out have been extremely difficult. In some ways, we have one thing to be grateful for.

There will come a time when we go back into the contemporary office however for now many of us are forced to work from home. In the meantime, how can you ensure that you maintain that working team spirit even though you’re in separate spaces?

Zoom Collaboration

We can’t sit around the modern boardroom tables for the time being, and even if it is possible, it has to be socially distanced. When working from home, you can still be a part of team collaboration via Zoom and other video calling software, which allows you to collaborate, brainstorm and simply be there, albeit virtually.

Create WhatsApp Groups

Creating a WhatsApp group for your work colleagues is a great way to stay in touch and keep the team spirit alive. You can keep it for work situations if you like but it’s a great way to stay in touch socially too, especially when restrictions are in place to stop you from doing so.

Meet up Socially When It’s Possible

It might be that people are still working from home but there are eased restrictions which allow you to meet up socially. If this is the case, you can do so, socially distanced, of course. This is a great way to stay in touch, perhaps perk everyone’s spirits up a little, and keep the team spirit alive at the same time.

Simply Remain in Touch Throughout Working Days

When you work in a large office, you’re probably going to be speaking to your colleagues at their office chairs regularly and you’ll miss that when you’re working from home. Simply staying in touch as best you can when you’re at work means that you're connected. That could be a quick phone call, a message, a video call, whatever you need to do. Communication is key when you’re working as part of a team and distance is no barrier to that.

Teamwork doesn't have to suffer just because everyone is in different locations. Technology means that we can always be closer than we feel we are, and with Zoom and other video calling packages available, there are more opportunities than ever before to connect and remain in touch, no matter what the circumstances.
