How Can a Business be Successful With Remote Employees?

Flexible working is certainly on the rise.

More and more employees are choosing a non-traditional way of working, in an attempt to achieve a quality home and work-life balance.

It’s true that businesses need to focus a large amount on employee morale. When employees are feeling under pressure, overwhelmed, and stressed out, they’re not going to work to an optimal level. They’re going to make uncharacteristic mistakes, they’re going to come up with less ideas in collaborative sessions around the modern boardroom tables, they’re going to clash with their colleagues without meaning to, and they’ll do far more frowning than smiling. All of this reduces their productivity.

Productivity equals profits.

So, by giving employees more options in terms of how they work and what works for them, you’re improving morale, reducing stress, and giving your business a better chance at success.

Without a doubt, one of the main causes of low employee morale is feeling overwhelmed and unable to work in a way which you need to work in. Remote employment solve this.

Basically, remote employees are still solid and firm employees of the business but they work from somewhere other than the office. Some might come into the office occasionally, some might come into the office a few days of the week, but they work from either home, a co-working space, or somewhere completely different. Some employees might move around, as they travel the world and earn a living at the same time.

A business is more likely to be successful if they give these types of opportunities to employees who want them. Not every employee will, and that’s fine too. Some flexible working applications might not suit the business and in that case they’re within their rights to turn the application down. However, it has to be considered and a business reason has to be given.

If you have employees who would prefer to work remotely, it’s certainly worth offering them the chance to do so. This could be the difference between retaining them as a valued and highly trained employee, and them leaving and you having to find someone else, through a costly and time-consuming recruitment campaign.

The other plus point to consider is that remote workers actually sav the business money. There are less overheads when someone isn’t sitting at their office desk every day, and that cash can be put back into the business, to good use.
