Smart goals

When setting goals, be it at your office desks or in your personal life, it’s useful to work with something called SMART. You’ve probably heard of this before, but it basically means ensuring that your goals are:

•    Specific
•    Measurable
•    Attainable
•    Relevant
•    Timely

By following the SMART template, you’ll find it much easier to achieve your goal, as well as how to go about it.

Managers may create SMART goals for the entire workforce to work towards, or you might set yourself SMART goals within the contemporary office setting, to help you meet your own task deadlines. The setting doesn’t really matter, but the template does.

So, how can you set these goals? Check out this useful video which explains how.

As you can see, once you know what each part of SMART means and how to link your goals to it, you’ll be able to set targets which are easier to reach. If a goal isn’t specific, for example, how are you supposed to know when you’ve achieved it, or when to stop? If it isn’t measurable, how can you tell if it’s worthwhile? SMART is the template which will allows you to hit deadlines time and time again, whether working behind your office screen or as part of a team in a collaborative setting.
