Employing remote workers

The way we work has changed drastically over the last few years. According to the HSO, 50% of the workforce in the UK will be working remotely by 2020. That’s a huge change!

As a result, the future of the regular office is certainly going to be very different than it is now. Employers need to keep up to date with these changes, which begs the question - should businesses be employing more remote workers? Or, offering remote working as an option for their current staff?

Check out this infographic from Form Assembly, which outlines some major benefits for the employee and the employer.

As you can see, this infographic claims that remote workers have less distractions by not working in the regular office and are therefore 13% more efficient, and 20% more productive. That all equates to extra profit for your business. In addition, 28% of remote workers state that they have a greater connection emotionally to their work, which will certainly increase performance. From a planet point of view, such workers also do their bit with a lower carbon footprint.

Is there a downside?

In some ways yes, but when weighed up against the benefits, it’s very marginal. A remote worker is not in the office, and as a result an employer has less control and contact. Provided regular communication is maintained, there really should be no issue.

So, should you be employing remote workers? According to the statistics, yes you should!

What do you think about remote working? Is it something you’ve tried, or would like to try?
