The Rise of the Relaxed Work-space

Relaxed workplace

Over the last few years we’ve seen an increase in offices which have a more relaxed vibe to them.
This can be in one of two ways; firstly, you can go down the route of Google and Apple, with no dress code and a chilled out, collaborative way of working, or secondly, you can go down the route of tranquil office design and a relaxing space in general.

Both are equally as beneficial to most employees, but it’s vital to know your staff and how they respond to certain working patterns and environments before making any drastic, sweeping changes. For instance, some employees may thrive in a more laid-back atmosphere, whilst others may need a more rigid, structured way of working. We’re all different!

A relaxed workspace can be extremely productive when done in the right way, and much of this comes down to the overall design.
We’re talking about using oval boardroom tables rather than the strict, long tables, allowing everyone to talk and bring ideas to the collaborative session. We’re talking about using cheap stylish office furniture, which has a comfortable and chilled out feel, rather than structured desks which must be extremely tidy at all times. Perhaps incorporating music into the office to boost productivity also.
It’s basically about creating a comfortable and inspiring place to work, without restrictions or a formal atmosphere.

A relaxed workspace has less rules, but those working within it don’t take advantage of this and instead use the tranquil feel to search for creative solutions to problems and bring innovative ideas to the fore.

We mentioned Apple and Google earlier and these really are two of the driving forces behind this more laid-back office environment trend. The idea is that by being more relaxed, less pressure is placed upon an employee, less stress occurs, and higher productivity takes its place. Mesh chairs instead of rigid chairs, breakout spaces instead of never leaving your desk, and collaborative areas for brainstorming sessions.

How do you feel about relaxed workspaces? Would you thrive or falter?
